The Range Rover Velar has received a facelift to keep it current, after being launched in 2018. The revisions include subtle tweaks to the exterior, a minimalist interior and limited exterior colour options.
The interior has been stripped back to one central touchscreen, that controls EVERYTHING! Thankfully it does have some buttons on the steering wheel and there is also a digital drivers display.
Features include wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charging, adaptive cruise with steer assist, plus Terrain Response modes. Air suspension (on this D300), adaptive dampers and configurable Terrain Response; offers a poised, sporty drive and solid off‑road capability compared with rivals.
I was disappointed with the interior materials as the dashboard is made of a scratchy plastic that feels out of place in a premium product. Furthermore there were evident build quality issues that caught my eye and I could not unsee them every time I approached the car.
Powertrain & Performance
Engine: 3.0‑litre inline‑6 bi‑turbo diesel with 48 V mild‑hybrid tech
Output: around 300 PS (296–300 hp) and 650 Nm torque
Acceleration: 0–62 mph in about 6.5 seconds, top speed 143 mph
This test car is optioned to over £72,000. I would either pay for the higher trim to receive the plusher interior or opt for a D200 and keep it light on options.
The Velar is a nice SUV, it does not have enough of the Ranger Rover qualities for me to recommend it. Check out the full review on the CarsofGlasgow YouTube channel.
